When you visit Austin, locals will always suggest that you should never pass up the chance to explore its famous 6th Street. Indeed, 6th Street is just the best known street not only in Austin but in the whole Texas State. This is so for it serves as home to the live music scene and entertainment in the city.

6th Street was formerly known as the Pecan Street. In the 1800s to early 1900s, this area was lined with houses and buildings. Nowadays, these historical structures were used to house the many bars, restaurants, hotels and cafes were live music can be experienced and enjoyed. Whatever your taste in music is – from blues, jazz, rock, punk, country to pop, you can be sure to have a musical overload if you stay on this site. This is especially true if you specifically head down to the seven blocks that stretches from Congress Avenue up to the Interstate Highway 35.

6th Street plays host to major events held annually in Austin. One popular event in particular is the South by Southwest festival which is a tri-part celebration of music, entertainment and interactive. Another one is the Pecan Street Festival, an event which is dedicated to fine arts and crafts. The Republic of Texas Biker Rally, a huge motorcycle rally, is held yearly in this downtown area, too.

Since 6th Street is the main avenue for entertainment and music in Austin, there are many times when traffic is blocked to keep the crowds safe. Mostly, the roads from E. 6th Street are closed on Thursday through Saturday nights and during holidays, festivals and other major entertainment events.
