Lots of concerts and live music entertainment are often held in Austin area. Some are paid concerts that you can usually view in many entertainment centers and halls. But if you wish to go to a free event and experience the music of the local artists and bands, one of the best places where you can go to is the plaza of the city hall.
Live from the Plaza is a program that is sponsored by the Music Division of the Economic Growth and Redevelopment Services Office in Austin. It is a series of free concerts hosted by the city government. Various local artists perform on the plaza of the city hall every Friday from 12 noon to 1pm. The kick-off and the closing events of this program are dubbed the “Live from the Plaza Sunset”, which usually takes place from 5pm to 8pm.
The plaza is located at 301 W. Second St. It is an area on the Lady Bird Lake which provides easy access to the retail district. After the free Friday concert, you can then go for some shopping. Or, if you are with your family, you can visit nearby places like Austin Children’s Museum and the hike and bike trail.
If you can’t attend and watch the live and free performances during lunchtime, there is nothing to worry about. Even if you are at home, you can watch the Live from the Plaza concert series as they are broadcasted live on Cable on Channel 6. You may also watch the live streaming videos on the internet via the Channel 6’s website.
